Check is as soon as you get it!! - Update: Replacement arrived and is perfect.

Ordered it Sunday and received it Monday. This is what I got. Not just used, but abused. Returned it today and should have the replacement tomorrow. I'll update this when it arrives. Update: The replacement arrived is is exactly what you expect from All-Clad. Changed 1-star rating to 5-star.

It doesn't work directly on induction

I bought it to use it as a pot on the induction...but then I realized it doesn't work. It doesn't come with lid...it's just a pot.

All-clad makes good products. They are a bit more pricey, but last if cared for properly.

Almost Perfect

I just received this double boiler pan, and am very pleasantly surprised at its quality, in comparison with the pieces of All-Clad D5 cookware I already own. It is very well finished and plenty sturdy for a double boiler. I really like its 3-quart capacity, and how shallow and wide the supporting ridge is. It will make it easy to stir and clean up. I have a very old double boiler with an expensive waterless cookware set, to compare. The ridge on that one is very narrow and deep, making it hard to get food out of it, or stir anything well that might get into the ridge during cooking, and it takes extra care to get it thoroughly clean. It also only has small C-shaped handles, which get very hot, so having the long handle on the All-Clad pan is good. I replaced this old set, and now I only own Le Creuset Tri-Ply stainless steel sauce pans, and this double boiler only fits into the 4 quart, which isn't any real problem. Wish I had had more experience with All-Clad before buying the Le Creuset, because the All-Clad is definitely better. The lids fit tighter, for one thing. The star taken off for the double boiler is for how heavy this pan is, for my strength. I could have used a helper handle.

Nice double boiler, just wish lid fit better.

Bought the All-Clad 4703-DB Double Boiler and it fits good into my D5 3qt pot. The handle on the double boiler is a little shorter than the D5 pot's handle, but I found this allows some room for me to grab the D5 pot handle if I need to move both pots. On double boilers that have the same length handle I would have to offset the handles to get to the bottom pot's handle. The only thing I didn't like was the D5 pot's lid does not fit flat over the top of the boiler. The lid is tapered so at least it still goes on, but it rest on the tapered edge of the lid and not on the flat lip of the lid.

Disappointing design

The insert fits my 3- and 4-quart All-Clad stainless sauce pans, and their lids fit the insert. However, the insert does not fit tightly enough to prevent the weight of its handle from causing it to slip to one side and tilt slightly, (If the contents were heavy enough, they might offset the handle weight so the insert would right itself.) The other negative is that the insert has a V-shaped projection that allows it to sit atop another pan, but the pocket it creates on the interior collects ingredients and is not easy to scrape out during cooking or when emptying.

Superb alternative to a new double boiler

This double boiler insert has been a great addition to our kitchen -- wonderful (and predictable) All Clad quality, and a less expensive option vs. buying a complete double boiler. We already had an All Clad saucepan it fits perfectly and it is much larger than either of my older two-piece double boilers. LOVE it!

I only use All-Clad pots and pans. Years of using thin, poorly designed pots and pans made me realize I needed an upgrade. No regrets buying and using All-Clad. Ever.

It is difficult to find a double boiler. Although I wish I could find one for my 2 qt. saucepan, this will work fine.
