Simply amazing

I live in an area that has very hard clay soil, and in my particular yard I have tree roots all over. When a coworker told me about this shovel I thought it was too good to be true. But I was wrong. This shovel goes through roots and clay like it was soft butter.

Root dhovel

Great product, very lightweight and easy to use. I’m a small woman so a man who is of a large stature may find this too small. Used it for a digging and relic hunting event. Easy to hold for hours with my metal detector.

Made my job easier

This worked great removing a bush that been planted approx 3-4yrs ago. It cut right through the majority of the roots and only took me 2hrs to get the bush out. In the past I used an axe and shovel for bushes which took me all day to get them removed.

Don’t hesitate for a nanosecond!!!! This will be the greatest yard tool of your lifetime! Good For My Type Of Metal Detecting

I use this spade primarily for metal detecting on pasture or fields where the ground is more compacted. It almost effortlessly cuts a clean plug which can then be easily pulled out. The 'O' handle allows for a firm grip by both hands if necessary. The size of the head has its advantages and disadvantages. One the one hand it's lighter to carry around than its larger version which was too heavy for me. Also, it's not so intimidating to look at when asking a farmer for permission to hunt on their land. On the other hand, for ploughed fields or soft soil/sand the head is too small and narrow which makes the ground difficult to scoop up. For the same reasons large holes are also difficult to do. If you're like me and hunting areas with a slightly more compact soil I would highly recommend this spade. Its serrated sides are sharp (which is good) so be careful!

I've only just discovered the RootSlayer line by Radius tools. Wish I had known about them sooner. Great little spade, definitely cuts the ground far more easily than my regular garden spade but I haven't used it long enough to judge the strength of the shaft yet so I'm being a bit gentle with it regarding leverage at the moment.

Excellent

Only used this once so far, but it made light work of digging out an overgrown border containing ferns, old tree stumps, phormium and all sorts of sprouting plant life. The bigger roots needed something stronger which makes sense as there as a bigger spade for that purpose. Definitely use the side saw action once a substantial root has been located. Digging over the soil after the roots had been removed was like a knife through butter. Found the handle to be perfect. I didn't use it for leverage as I have a cheap shovel for that purpose and didn't want to risk it. Really excellent product.

Let's get This [Gardening] Show on the Road!

A serious bit of kit, a half size spade, with saw tooth edges, to vigorously attack ground that is infested with tree roots, the bane of my life at the moment. Very nice design. I believe it is a desirable item for the Detectorist fraternity on ther digs, so the portability (which I don't need) is excellent also.
