Works good
I got this spontaneously one day and it actually works well. I’ve used it mainly for potatoes for fries. The 3/8 die works better but the 1/4 works as well, just harder to use.

Great for elderly or sight impaired
Ordered this for my 89 yr old Dad who is legally blind. He loves to make clam chowder, but dicing potatoes was so hard. He thought he had them diced small, but would find large chunks when eating. This has solved that problem. He put 5lbs of pealed potatoes in a bowl and microwaved for 3 to 4 minutes (he was using yellow potatoes) and they sliced like a dream! He is in love with this! As much as he loves his clam chowder, he dreaded trying to cut the potatoes. He also has cut the potatoes for French fries. This is a game changer for him.

Works well enough for home. Design is good.
I had a french fry cutter for years which just had a handle to push the potato thru the blades. This has a different system which latches the mechanism which pushes the potato and works much easier.

Best cutter on the market!!!
Ok, this fry and veggie cutter is the beast. I've put russet potatoes through it, carrots, tomatoes, onions, jalapenos, celery, and a host of other fruits and veggies. I love the 1/4 inch ratcheting feature of this product because you destroy your food trying to push it through the blades all at one time. AND it has a blade guide to cut the food as it comes out of the blades!!! Now for some tips.... I've seen this item has gotten a few bad reviews, but only from the people not happy with how hard it is to put a sweet potato through it. Seriously, sweet potatoes are a chore to cut even with the best of knives, so I don't know if these people have a clue? Just put sweet potatoes in the microwave for 1 to 1.5 minutes and then run it through this cutter. Works perfectly with very little effort. There are some cons.... You can't put a large potato in it whole. You have to cut a large potato in half and maybe in half again if it's a really big potato. However, that doesn't matter to me as I like 4 to 5 inch long fries. Also, tying to cut tomatoes or dice them is hit and miss. If you have a hard tomato, it works like a charm for salsa and the like. But if you have a soft tomato, it will mush, leak, and turn your ripe tomato into salsa on the spot, hahahaha...Don't get me wrong, the blades are very SHARP, but soft tomatoes will never go through it like you might like. And here is why I give it 5 stars... 1) The ratchet motion is invaluable from the stand point that it gives you 1/2 inch increments which you can dice your veggies in precise increments. 2) The blades on both 3/8 and 1/2 inch cutting surface are LETHAL. They will rip through your skin like soft butter. 3) The plastic is very heavy / durable to handle the toughest of veggies, sweet potatoes need a quick nuke, but nothing else needs prep. 4) Did I mention the ratchet action? lol... Hey, lets face it, with other types of veggie cutters you just apply as much pressure as needed to cut the food. So what does this mean? It means you apply too much pressure and bend or crack or break your cutting blades. Since this unit only allows a 1/4 inch at a time to come through, you can tell when a veggie just isn't going to go through, and you can take steps to soften the veggie, or cut it smaller to fit though the cutter. Seriously, just forget about all the cutters out there, this one is the REAL DEAL. You will never break or bend a blade on this unit, well, unless you're just stupid. Most normal people will find this product perfectly flawless. I mean seriously, who tries to get their whole weight of a 100 pounds or more to PROVE they cannot put a dry hard sweet potato through it? Use your brain and nuke the sweet potato first, eh? I'm sure anyone who has a bad review for this product is because they are not using their heads. I highly recommend this item, and it is priced at a nice point. Not expensive, and it's not cheap. The plastic will never break if you're a normal person, and the blades will last a life time IF YOU'RE A NORMAL PERSON with normal needs, hahahahahaha.... Just don't be an idiot trying to stand on the thing if your veggies aren't going through as easily as you think they should. Use common sense and adjust how you want to put your food through it. I just love this thing, and you will too.

Blade pushed out - customer support non existent
I’ve used a bunch of these.. This is actually made by Hamilton Beach. Thought it looked decently made but the blades broke easily when pushing through a softened sweet potato while making steak fries ruining the fries…As well my wife couldn’t stand the jerking from the ratcheting handle. She said it felt like it’s going to break. This item is only a few weeks old & now I can’t even get a replacement blade because the customer service page is garbage. There is thousands of items of which this chopper is not listed… I just spent 35 mins trying to get customer support. Save your money

Well Above Expectations
The product is well designed and manufactured. I've now cut about 20 potatoes through it. As a design engineer, I can see that it is built to last. In searching for a french fry cutter, I found numerous offerings, all based on one of two methods. The cheaper products were basically a cutter blade that one pushes straight down through a potato. Even with sharp blades, this approach requires a lot of force. One reviewer said he weighed 150 pounds and had to put most of his weight on it to get through a potato. (Potatoes are fairly hard.) The other type employs something resembling an old fashion water pump handle. It's basically using leverage to reduce the force needed by the user. However, the leverage means that the cutting blade moves a reduced distance, meaning fries that are usually pretty short in length. Any potato that is even somewhat large usually must be cut before it will fit in the product. On these leverage type devices, I found that only very expensive models are large enough to cut fries of a desirable length. For commercial use, these get the job done quickly, but they are very large machines. The Weston cutter employs a revolutionary method. It uses a short lever combined with a ratchet. The result is needing only moderate force and easy to hold the device in place. It cleans easily. It can handle a potato up to 4 1/2 inches long. The included attachment to make dicing easy is a great feature. Hats off to Weston Products of innovation and usefulness at a reasonable price. - - - - - p.s.: I recently bought one of the T-fal deep fryers with the feature that filters and drains the oil into a reservoir. This is also a revolutionary innovation and makes cleaning and reusing oil much more convenient than other non-commercial fryers. It also costs more, but if you have ever filtered oil in the usual, laborious, and messy way, you'll be glad to pay for this feature. p.p.s.: I would like to share a thought. In my opinion, we spend a lot for groceries, why do so many people (as I formally did) buy junky can openers that leave sharp edges, pots and skillets that are too thin to heat evenly, and so on? For example, my latest can opener removes the top leaving no sharp edges. The top can even be used as a lid that can be put on the can if you don't use the whole can of food, so you can store the rest. My earlier can openers became dull rather soon. I have probably bought at least 15 in my life, including a few electric ones. The cost of better kitchen tools is trivial compared to the thousands of dollars we will spend over the lives of good tools. I know more expensive is not always better and the best is often not worth it, so I'm not suggesting spending more unless it makes sense. -- Sorry, I got carried away with this thought and I hope I did not bore or insult you.

Excellent french fry cutter
Saw great results with my Dad's cutter and had to have one of my own. Very simple operation: press a good-sized potato against the (very) sharp cutting grid and let the tool's ratcheting action take care of the rest. Pumps out evenly cut fries in seconds. Sure beats cutting fries by hand and works well with an air fryer. Much prefer the large cutting grid to the small one. If you like fresh-cut fries, this is the tool for you.

Good at first, but doesn't last
This cutter was good at first, but took less than 12 months of fairly light use before the main (7x7) cutting blade was ruined. The metal got bent and pushed out of shape, leaving the blade useless. Until then, the mainly plastic constructive seemed surprisingly strong; it's a shame the blade itself is not stronger.

Don't be afraid of plastic
Was a bit worried this would be fragile being plastic and not Stainless Steel like the more expensive models, but I ordered it because I wanted the dicing add-on the others lacked. Turns out to work great, easy to use, easy to clean, well built item. Bought this for fries in my new Air Cooker, and it does a great job cutting both the small and larger size Yam and Potato fries!

Make sure whatever you are cutting will fit into cutting window
It cuts really good with small to medium potatoes but struggles on big ones and will jam if too big. It makes it difficult to remove if you do get one jammed.
