Works Surprisingly Well
This was a bit of a gamble, because in my experience with Black & Decker you never know if you're going to get a reliable tool or a flimsy plaything. Well, so far this has been very effective and handy. We get a lot of sand and the like in the vehicle. Even with weather guard floor protectors and so on the cab and the rear can get messy. Also, lots of tree debris works its way into the outside vents, door and liftgate seams, windshield wiper trough, and so on. We got this to help clean all of that up. And it did so very well. The plastic housing is solid and well-fitted. The pivoting nozzle locks firmly in place. The debris catcher unscrews easily and locks back into place with authority. The motor runs smoothly. There is enough suction to drag grit out of carpet or pull debris out of crevices. The cord is long, heavy duty, and easy enough to handle. Even though it's all plastic, it seems reasonably solid for light use. This has more power than those little rechargeable numbers, but of course it doesn't have the oomph of your carpet vacuum. Because it works from your car outlet this is pretty much just an auto accessory, but we knew that upfront. For what it's worth the box is durable and the tool and its parts fit back in easily, so the box is handy for trunk storage and parts don't get scattered. So, all in all, this did just what we wanted at a reasonable price. A happy purchase.

Everything I wanted in an Automotive Vac - had to invest in a different storage bag though....
This is my third Car Vac, and I have to say, I think we got a winner! It has everything I wanted, and needed in an automotive vacuum cleaner, and more. Other than to initially test its usage, I've never really had to use the hose adjustment. I find that I can accomplish all my vacuuming needs solely via the pivoting nose, which extends and retracts, and also folds all the way in for compact storage. It also has a handy brush you can flip on. The power cord is also long enough for me to reach everywhere in my sedan, including the trunk and frunk and the sucking power of the Vac has been plenty sufficient for my needs. Another must-have feature for me was a washable filter - i didn't want to have to deal with replacing filter bags often - and this Vac delivers on that front. I've just had it for a month though - will update on how it holds up over time later. Fyi - In case anyone is wondering - it does not have an internal battery (you cannot charge it and use it unplugged from a power source). It needs to be constantly powered by the cigarette lighter in the car. In the event that you might need to use it in a house or somewhere with only a 110v outlet - grab an Ac to DC Adapter. Keep in mind though, that while it's plenty sufficient for Automotive cleaning, it's really not a powerful enough vacuum for heavy duty vacuuming inside the house. As stated in the title, my only qualm was the mesh bag that was provided with this unit - it was all but useless to me. I prefer more solid storage bags for my small appliances, so I ordered a trunk organizer that actually fits perfectly for the Vacuum, along with its attachments (see pictures attached).

Great Vacuum, Car Running = Better Suction
This little vacuum is great. It lives in my trunk and helps keep my car near spotless. A lot of reviews claim that the unit has poor suction, but I have not experienced this problem. I have noticed an increase in power when the car is running and the alternator is suppling the power instead of the battery. A 12v car battery is fully charged at around 12.6 - 13.1 volts. Under a load (doing work) the batteries voltage will start to drop. For instance when you start your car your battery will drop as low as 10 volts and still be a good battery. Standard alternators put out between 13.5 - 14.5 volts. Once your car starts your battery just hangs out and the alternator powers all the electrical needs of the car. Basically this vacuum is designed for 12 volts. Weak batteries or extended use can lower the battery below 12 volts. If the car is running the alternator will maintain 13.5+ volts, plenty to properly power the vacuum. I'd say that many of the complaints about low suction are from people running off the battery and not understanding electricity.

Not much suction but it comes with attachments
More like a 3.5 star rating. Came on time within a couple of days from ordering. No damage to box or vacuum. It comes with attachments and a bag to store it in. This is the second time I’ve ever owned a handheld vacuum and I remember now why I didn’t like it. The suction will never be like an actual full sized vacuum. Just gotta suck it up and do good cleaning and maybe stick this one in the car for those long trips. I bought this for my car and stairs and tried it out and it’s more convenient but not much suction like I mentioned before.

Good vacuum cleaner for car. Suction is not at superior level however I think this is car battery limitation, not this particular device. With this device you can expect to cleanup about 80-95% of all the dirt in the car. Car won't be looking like it was detailed or like new. But overall the car will be clean. You have to go over the surface few times to remove more dirt. What will remain is occational dirt like dry leaves particles, stuck in cloth material, dirt under the seat or other hard reaching places, etc. It took about 30 minutes for me to cleanup Honda civic. Cable length is enough to cleanup trunk. I didn't find useful the hose and the brush for it. Suction reduces when you use those. However vacuum cleaner nose is pretty smart and sufficient for all the cleaning. You can adjust the length and angle, this is enough for all you can do with this VC. Strong suction is the most insufficient feature.

Disappointing
Rather poor suction for the price and the hose attachment lacks suction power. The lighter plug has trouble saying in the socket as well. Nice design and a long cord doesn’t make up for the lack of power.
