Great for a rolling kitchen island
These casters were exactly what I was looking for. I put them on a kitchen island from Ikea that I use in my office for all sorts of projects. The room also serves as a yoga studio, so I wanted something I could roll around as needed. The island is very solid--the casters support it well and roll nicely on the wood floor. Plus, the casters look like they were made to go with the island, as opposed to some of the larger rubber wheels I saw on Amazon. A few tips: 1. Measure the legs you want to put them on and choose the right caster size. I ordered 1 5/8" casters for legs that are approximately 1.25" x 1.5/8." 2. The Ikea legs had a pin hole where there were protective plastic caps. I removed those and my dad helped me drill holes that would accommodate the casters. If you are not confident about drilling, call your dad. 3. While the island is quite solid, I don't think I would set the casters in a chair that bears a lot of weight and that you plan to roll around on daily. Some of the negative reviews I believe are related to that use. I roll my island out of the way daily for yoga but I can see how a 200 lb dude rolling a chair would stress the plastic wheels.

Perfect match but they didn't hold up.
These casters are a perfect match for the original 1930-40 solid oak swivel desk chair that I refinished for my 15 year old grandson. The only problem is that three of the four casters' soft rubber wheels split in half after only a short time and had to be replaced. I know they are "medium duty" but my grandson is quite fit and does not weigh over 130 pounds - divided by 4 - the load is less than 20 pounds per wheel. It is not the cost of the item - but more of a nuisance to have to replace them.

Very nice caster. Nice replacement for the old hard wooden casters.
These are really nice. We have an antique rotary iron (Mangle) that had the original wheels that seemed to be made of wood. This is a very rare model that is in a wooden cabinet like a piece of furniture and it is trimmed in the antiqued finish brass. I searched high and low for 1/2" shank casters but to no avail. I figured these are such a small bit bigger, I could just enlarge the holes in the bottoms of the legs. So I decided to order them. They were the exact dimensions as the old ones except the slightly larger shaft. We had to pry out the inserts, and slightly re-drill the holes and then inserted the new insert and popped the casters in. They say they are "hard rubber" but it seems a bit harder than that. Maybe a soft plastic :-) We use them on hardwood floors and the machine is very heavy. No problems at all. The bearing swivel also works so much better than the old ones. You really can't tell by looking at the machine and not think the casters are original. Very happy!

drop in replacement
We inherited an old cedar chest that was just the right height for our roomba to get stuck underneath. The old wheels also barely turned and these looks like a taller drop in replacement. And, they are! A couple taps with a hammer and they sunk into the existing sockets. An unforeseen issue for use anyway is the chest is our coffee table and these casters roll TOO WELL! Not a ding against the product, but these roll so easily even on carpet that if we put our feet on the chest it rolls across the room.

We recently bought an antique serving table which has mounting inserts on the legs but was missing the stem casters. I wanted to add casters with 1-5/8 diameter wheels to match a nearby antique china cabinet. I looked around quite a bit and the Shepherd casters were the only ones I could find which appeared to meet my needs. These fit into the existing mounting inserts and look great - they match the turn-of-the-century look of the table perfectly. They do come with mounting inserts but I did not use them in this case as the existing inserts were in good condition. They have hard rubber wheels which roll nicely on our wood floor without scratching it. They come two to a card so you need two cards for a total of four. They have a nice antique brass finish. These were so nice that I bought a second set to replace the casters on the nearby china cabinet which has the original casters with metal wheels.

The casters are exactly as described, and arrived earlier than expected. They perfectly fix a vintage desk chair, were easy to install, and preserve the vintage look of the chair.

Exactly what I needed and they look perfect on my antique washstand. There is some clear lubricating oil on part of the fixture and I was worried that this might transfer to the rug underneath it but so far so good. It must not be on the wheel.
