Looks great! Needs lots of rinsing
This truly needs to be rinsed SEVERAL times before placing in the tank…even then, there will be a bit of cloudiness. Add water carefully over a dish to avoid lots of cloudiness. The water clears up in a few hours. My bag was new and sealed, and luckily mine didn’t have a lot of dust to rinse off. Consistency: I expected larger gravel size, but this is more of a sand with small gravel bits mixed together. Looks great in the tank! Hopefully it holds up over time. Used in a 6 gallon, and had about 3 lbs left over for a 2 in depth.

Great stuff
The media could not be loaded. I mixed this with some pet store black sand because I wanted the sand to sparkle a little, but the pet store sand is heavier than the Seachem so you can see its super black at the bottom and dark grey on top. Oh well, at least I got some volume in the tank and didn't have to buy like 3 bags of $$$ Seachem $$$ MAKE SURE YOU WASH this stuff or your tank will be cloudy for a long time. you can see in the picture even after washing the Seachem 2 times in a 5gal bucket it still was cloudy for a while. Just imagine if you just dumped the bag in with out washing it, your tank will look like some of these 1 star reviews.

Very DUSTY
Absolutely love the color and plants are doing great in substrate. HOWEVER, this substrate is very very dusty. It took about 10 washes to get majority of the dust out - not even all of it. I also wanted to add a small scoop to a tiny area that had caved out, and the dust that emitted into my tank from the small handful I added was insane. Other than the dust, I love the substrate.

Good gravel
I've been using this gravel in my planted fish aquarium. My plants love it.

Inert black fractionated clay gravel
I love this product. I bought black sand from this company, but its grain was too fine for my purpose. This is my go-to substrate by itself or as a cap in a dirted tank. I've never had any problems with it. You DO have to wash it. Just accept that fact and wash it.

Received an open bag that was mixed with grey gravel
I ordered two of these bags. The first bag was perfect and after washing looked great. The second bag was already opened and loose gravel had spilled into the box. I replaced the second bag because it looked like much coarser silvery-grey gravel had been mixed in with the black.

Very fine, requires rinsing.
So when I first decided to get some of seachem's flourite for my aquarium, I accidentally got the regular red/brown color instead of black. The bag had busted open in the box, so I was able to see what it looked like before returning. The flourite black is much finer particle size than regular. And quite finer that standard aquarium gravel. Idk how this will affect it being in the aquarium as substrate, but it did make it a pain to clean. So the directions on the bag suggest you rinse it. I would say rinsing it is a requirement. And because it is so fine, you'll need a fine mesh strainer for this. Get yourself 2 buckets. Dump all your gravel in one. Use a strainer to rinse it in the sink and then dump the clean gravel in the other bucket. Time consuming? Yes. But the water that came out of the gravel when I did this was a murky grey/black color. I definitely would not want this in my aquarium. I don't even want to imagine how many gravel vacs and water changes it would take to get out. Here is the detailed way I strained it. Once the water comes out clear from rinsing, I would shake/sift it around in the strainer. I discovered that a mess of tiny particles come out in the sink, see pics. So I would tip the strainer enough that I could use my hand and the water to get all those tiny particles off the bottom of the strainer. Be careful to not tip so much that your relatively larger sized gravel particles fall out of the top of the strainer. Then I sifted again and did this rinsing of the bottom of the strainer again. Like I said, it was time consuming. Also, if you don't want some of these super tiny particles going down your drain, I suggest getting a fine mesh sink strainer. I know my sink is already a little slow draining and needs the trap underneath cleaned out. So I wasn't terribly concerned about it. As far as quantity, I ordered three 15.4 lb bags. The first pic is how they look in a 55 gallon tank. I haven't properly leveled it out yet, but it is approximately 2 inches total, with 1 inch being visible above the frame. I would actually like just a little more than this. But my plan is to mix some regular aquarium gravel in with it for a pop of color. Though this level of gravel is fine for this tank. It is just a personal preference. And I almost just ordered 2 bags, but I don't think that would have been enough. Once I do add my colored gravel in and get it set up and going with my plants, I will update this review.

best out their
I find this best of all I tried , and I have tried , fluval stratum , Eco Complete , Eco Complete will raise Your PH and add Nutrients to the water column , problem with that is it keeps leaching these and algae will take advantage of it . The Fluval Plant Stratum , will lower Your PH and add nutrients as well, problem with the Fluval is it is light in weight and almost impossible to plant in , gravel vac will suck it up easy . And again a algae magnet The Seachem is mostly neutral . , small grain size , but good in weight , . No sharp edges so corys will be safe . I did not find this to be all that hard or dusty took a 5 gallon bucket and a garden hose and went thru 4 cycles of rinsing and it came out fine , used a dinner plate once and just refilled the tank . No better of worse then any other substrate I have used . For My tank 3 bags in a 40 Gal breeder tank gave Me about a inch of depth , nice black color looks great

Seconds
Received bag double bagged in another bag. Original bag has cuts in it. I paid for a new item, not a seconds item. Disappointed.

Great product, follow the instructions.
Bought this for my new 75gal tank that will be planted. I love it, it looks amazing and most of the reviews complained about it leaving a thick grey film or really cloudy water well it says right on the bags to rinse it, so that what I did, I used an old wash tub with a window screen over it and a medium sized colander. I did one bag at a time, poured it into the colander and rinsed it with a low flow of water, mixing it until the water ran mostly clear. Put it in my tank and the water was a little cloudy but 24 hours later with my filter running the water is crystal clear. I would definitely buy this again for another aquarium.

Received a bad bag.
Ordered 3 bags. One came partially open, and when I dumped it out to rinse realized that someone had partially filled it with a more gray product. Now I have to order a new bag and ship one back. I have a feeling some other person is going to get it. Deduct 2 stars. Otherwise it does need to be rinsed a bit. I did it in a plastic tote outside and it wasn’t as bad as some people make it out to be. It is pretty murky at the beginning though so I wouldn’t skip this step More like a coarse sand than pea gravel. Just the colour I wanted.
