Rainbird Control Value Cover Box

Very sturdy box. Difficult to use with a four value installation. Used a sawzall to cut slots in bottom for 1" and 3/4" pipe. Box fits down over the PVC pipes and values rather than going through the existing openings.

This box is a very heavy duty box made of thick plastic. It is strong. The knockouts pop out with a hammer pretty easily. I did have to cut out some sections at the bottom so the pipes won't be in the way if I want to remove the whole box in the future. This was my option. I think I paid about $35 per box as I needed two of them. Since I`m over building my system installing seven valves, if I could have found a box that could hold all 7 valves I would have bought it instead. My electric wiring of the valves using two boxes is going to be tricky. One big box would have made it a piece of cake. Installing the manifold (I connected a three and a four together) and keeping the knockouts inline was a challenge. Luckily I was able to enlarge the last four cutouts so everything would line up correctly. Triple measuring is a must LOL! This is one of the best priced valve boxes I have ever seen. Even the lid is heavy duty. If you need a box with cutouts like I did, this should work out great for you and at a great price. They even shipped them in separate boxes (for some reason) with free shipping! It doesn't get any better than that!

Durable and large

I ordered this box to house 3 new valves when I moved some irrigation lines in preparation for a house addition. The knock-out covers on the pipe holes are a cool feature - the covers are replaceable once you knock them out and run the pipe through, which makes the opening a little smaller and helps prevent dirt from coming in the box. However I used 1" pvc through the smaller holes and it was too big allow the covers to be replaced - not a big deal. This box has 3 holes on each end for the main line, and 2 sides - one with 3 holes and one with 4 holes for the valve outputs, so it can hold only 1 - 4 valves. Looking at the picture, we can see the 3 hole end, and the 4 hole side. The distance between where the main line comes in on the ends, through the valves, and out the sides, could be larger by a few inches (hence the 4 stars). This box won't be useful on existing valve set-ups - it's really for new installs only. I do like the fact that there's no holes in the cover for lizards, frogs, spiders, etc. to crawl in. There's no mistaking that the box is solid. I placed a few bricks under the edges to help make it stable when I installed it. I'm 205 pounds and I can easily step on it. Overall, I like the box. I'm going to order another one for my other 3 valves that I need to replace and upgrade.

Very sturdy

Very sturdy, nice for multiple valve installations. I deducted 1 star because the box is designed with 3 knock out panels on one side while the opposite side has 4 knock out panels that do not align if you're doing a straight pass through. I suppose they expect that the pressure side common manifold be installed inside the box, I prefer having the manifold outside the box.

STURDY

This Rain Bird irrigation box is VERY sturdy. I had been looking for one because the typical one that they sell at the well known home improvement stores sold the crappy ones. They kept bending in with time on the sides. This one is well made. It was easy to install and cut out the desired openings. On one side it has 3 openings and the other side it has 4 openings if you to choose which to cut out. On both ends it has 3 with the big one in the middle. Perfect if you have different water pipes which I did. I highly recommend.

Nice heavy box.

It took a while to finally receive this box, but the price was worth the wait. I installed an aeration system in the box, and it worked really well. I got the whole system underground and it looks clean and tidy. I can mow over it, and from a distance, you can not see it. It has knock out panels along the sides, but of course those are never exactly where you want them, but it was really simple to drill the holes where I wanted them. I highly recommend this box.

Sturdy.

Installed with pea gravel along the bottom and half way up, then filled in the rest with soil. The neighbor drove over by accident and no damage to lid, box, or pipes inside.

Love the Punchouts

Most valve boxes have just two openings dead center on both ends. Never mind that the manifold should occupy one side of the box while the valves should be more towards the center then the manifold. And the other boxes have no side holes precut for the piping to the valves - leaving you to hack something out of the sides of the valve box. This box has multiple holes ready to punch out on all sides. It was great! I've never had an easier time with a valve box or a box with so little dirt coming n from the crappy holes I had to make. And, yes, it's very sturdy. Next time I'm buying another one of these!

works good for the three valve setup

works good for the three valve setup. Very solid. Cover clicks on and off good. I recommend using garbage bags or rags where the pipes enter at the bottom to keep out dirt and sand. I put mine on a packed base of 6" deep 3/4" chip stone to drain any water.
