Best Budget Friendly Filter!

This filter is absolutely amazing. I initially bought one for my turtle tank because it just seemed like no matter what filter I got or even if I had two filters running for them, as soon as I put this one in. Water has been clearer than it ever has been in the past 5 years. Now when I do water changes, I do very minimal. It works so good that I bought one for my fish tank! And it is doing wonders! Such an upgrade from my other filter that was always splashing water everywhere, leaving hard water marks all over the outside. No issues with this filter whatsoever. You can’t even hear it unless you have the outtake a bit out of the water. In fact it’s so silent that I took it out of the water just to get some white noise. Even then, it’s not loud at all, just very slight trickling noises. In LOVE! If I had any other tank I would 100% buy this filter.

Great Filter Choice for One Turtle Tank.

I have a turtle tank which is a 20-Gallon (30 x 12 x 12-Inches) one. There is only one turtle in it. I usually put water in it about 1/2 or 2/3 filled. Also, my turtle is a red eared slider and he is 1 year old. I've been trying out different products to filter the tank water (as you know, turtle can be messy :/), and this product is considered the best among of them. First, I purchased this product on Oct 8th 2018. I started to use it (also with clean water) on the same day. Until now (which is on Nov 5th), the water is still clean (as you can see in the pictures). Please note: the way I feed my turtle is different. So this review could be a combination of the way I fed him or the filter itself. Or maybe both. But regardless, it works for me. As for how I fed him: First, I do not put turtle's dry food into the water. Instead, I put his food on the dock. That means, my turtle will need to go to the dock to catch the food himself. Because he prefers to eat his dry food in the water (so it will be moisturized). That also means, he can only eat the food that fall into the water from the dock. So the food will either be eaten by him, or it will remain on the dock. So less chance for the dry food to mess up the water is what I am trying to say. Second, the vet suggested me to cut down the times of feeding. So now, I fed my turtle once or twice a day. So less chance for the food to even go into the water. Third, I do feed him frozen food (like frozen shrimps or blood worms). And I do throw them into the water directly. I fed my turtle frozen food at least 3 times a week. So I will say for this part, the frozen food might mess up the water. That means, because I've eliminated the chance for dry food to fall into the water, now only the frozen food which is 3 times a week can only mess up the water. This filter works well in this condition. My suggestion: if you have similar turtle tank situation like me, and you do not prefer to keep the turtle tank top open (because I have a cat and she loves to jump on top of the tank). As you know, most of the good filters are big, and it requires the top to be open, so it won't work for me. Then, I will recommend you to consider buying this filter (and only this model which is 600 and NOT 300 because 300 is too small and not as powerful as 600 for my tank). Please also note: Because the water will get dirty eventually, so you will need to change the filter's sponge once in a while. As for how often, for my situation, it is once a month. The water might be able to stay clean longer than once a month if you feed your turtle outside of the tank. Overall, I rated this product 5 stars because it is the best among of all of the products I tried.

Filter has a short life, difficult to open for cleaning

I bought two of these filters for my axolotl aquarium. Overall I did like the spray bar to minimize current in the aquarium and operation was quiet. However, I found that they just quit working after about a year. Additionally, they are very hard to open for cleaning and filter changes.

Horizontally in the tank

This was recommended by some blogs for aquatic turtles. (I acknowledge that this is really designed for fish aquariums filled completely such that the pump is oriented vertically). But it also works fully submerged and you use the directional attachment they provide. The whole pump, except for the top half inch, must be submerged. My tank is only partially full because The turtle needs it's basking platform. So the pump is horizontal in my tank. 1. Sometimes the turtle detaches it or moves it significantly. The suction cups aren't meant to stabilize the thing like that. 2. You can't use the above-water spray bar attachment unless you use/orient the pump vertically. Still, the pump works great and I recommend it. I just envisioned that I'd be using the spray bar for the turtle to play under. I experimented a bit and installed it submerged anyway -- she ended up playing with it and detaching it. So I use the directional attachment. I leave the pump on maximum power and direct the outflow such that it breaches the water surface to agitate the surface tension. I've also added in some ceramic media. This cascade 600 filters my aquarium water for a couple weeks at a time -- and I have a very messy turtle.

So loud it was literally deafening and unusable!!

I can't comment on its performance because after 6 attempts none of us could bare the noise any longer,it was horrific!!! We disassembled, reassembled, ensured it was fully submerged, re-read instructions x 4 and attempted setup 5-6 times before deciding it just had to go back!! I am not exaggerating when i say it was louder than a jet engine and left ringing in our ears!!

Perfect. Used for a terrapin.. much better than leading market brand.. extreemly clear water.. infact after a couple of months of stirring the gravel up... this has completely cleared the tank..... makes previous very expensive filter look very poor... very pleased

It's not new, it's looks like it's been used

When I received this item, I didn't have a chance to open it's. So the next morning I opened it's, I tried to disassembly (very difficult), anyway I got it disassembled I noticed it seems like it's second hand (been used), so I just washed it's, put it in my fish tank. NOTE: If there's have a zero star, I'll give it a zero star, that's how bad it is. Sending to the costumers returned item that costumers have returned back to them!!! Put yourself in the costumers' shoes, and see how you feel when you are the buyer, It is NOT THAT I WANTED GETTING FOR FREE. I DON'T WANT TO CALLED CONSUMER SERVICES TO GET THE REPLACEMENT BECAUSE IT'S GOING TO TAKE A WHILE FOR ME TO RECEIVE IT'S, BECAUSE OF THE CONVID-19 GOING AROUND. SO THIS IS WHY I HAVE NO CHOICE, BUT TO USE IT IF THERE'S DIDN'T HAVE ANY OF THE CONVID-19, I WOULD HAVE TO CALLED IN, AND BITCH ABOUT THIS, THIS IS NOT CHEAP/FREE, WHEN I PAY FOR IT, I EXPECTED TO BE NEW, NOT USED!!!!!! I WOULDN'T RECOMMEND THIS PRODUCT TO ANYONE ONE OF MY FAMILY OR FRIENDS.

Great Cleaning Mechanism, Must Have!

The media could not be loaded. So far so good. I got the 600 and my fish loves it’s current. It’s quiet although my video was a little loud due to my air pump but the filter is really good. I highly recommended this product, It cleans the water precisely prior I got the filter the water was blurry already 1 day after my fish came but when my filter came after 12 hours of running the water became clear. Affordable price for the quality of this product!
