Perfect
Our bathtub water handle broke after 20 years of extended/extra-hot twice daily showers. It was due to sheer wear and tear, so there is no anger involved. The builder did cut a lot of corners (cheap carpets and shrubbery that never grew to full potential), but they did install Moen items. The problem for me was that my default hardware store was out of the handles and Wally World was selling the same one for 4x more!!!! I did have to use a cut-off tool as the plastic is quite thick! I put the now one on with a few turns of my screwdriver!

Does not fit old Moentrol handle
I have old Moen Moentrol fixtures in my shower (presumably from the late 1970's). This universal Moen Posi-Temp shower handle knob did NOT fit my shower handle because the base was far too wide. (It was in great condition, just the wrong model for my shower.) If you have an older Moen shower, I had luck with both the Danco and Lasco brands of shower heads. Search for "old Moen Moentrol shower handle" and read the reviews to see if anyone wrote "Moentrol."

Perfect fit
We have never replaced our bathroom appliances and when our shower broke and we couldn’t turn off the water we were in a pinch. It fit our shower perfectly and has been working great for us since we installed it.

Moen knob for Moen valve
For slightly more than the cheapest you can find, buy the real Moen handle. Its very solid, fits perfectly and of course has Moen quality. Im guessing this knob will last forever like the original knob, not like the box store knob I bought last time.

Genuine Part, Excellent Fit
Our shower handle, or knob, cracked on the inside and then would not shut the water off without fiddling with it, which is the typical situation. After reading reviews about this knob, it seemed wise to order a new cartridge at the same time. The people that mention this as a potential problem are correct. Our decades-old cartridge had a lot of resistance when turning. That resistance puts too much stress on the plastic. If your old shower valve doesn't turn effortlessly, like the volume control knob on an old car or home stereo, replace your shower valve in addition to this knob. Some thoughts on Replacing the Cartridge The new Positemp 1222 cartridge would not fit all the way into our shower valve. There is a clip that must be inserted to keep the valve in place. I used some lime remover on a rag wrapped around a screwdriver to really clean out the valve body until it was free of deposits. After that, the new valve just barely went in, and I was able to put the clip all the way in and then confirm that it was well seated top and bottom. That 1222 valve was darned expensive -- $50 bucks! I had to buy it at the local store when I found out that the model 1225 that I got from Amazon did not fit (not Amazon's fault). It is kind of tough to take the valve out just to see which model one has. The puller tool and assembly lube were essential. The old valve was really, really stuck in there, so use a good metal cartridge puller and be prepared to give it a bit more effort than you think it might take. If your main water valve doesn't shut completely off or if you are not sure about doing this sort of stuff - just get a good plumber to take care of it. Plumbers definitely know how to deal with all of this. If you use your lime and calcium removal stuff to get deposits off the trim ring and tube, and then further clean it up with a bit of WD-40, it should look better. Now that the new valve is installed, it turns so easily that I could probably take the knob off and turn the valve with my fingers. I can't imagine how the this new knob would break. It is very well built for its purpose. The $50 bucks for the valve and more for the puller, lube, and misc. supplies really hurts, but the easy operation has that feeling of a job well done every time we use the shower! I recieved a good part, in original packaging, that definitely doesn't deserve bad reviews. I'm also happy that we didn't have to bust out the wall or shower to replace the entire valve body, and glad that after all the years, we can still get a new cartridge and original knob for the shower.

Exact oem replacement!
This is the 2nd replacement in 22 years for the kids shower/bath. Exact replacement. Being plastic and used a few times a day with 3 kids, it's no surprise that these eventually fail. Thankfully Amazon carries this exact oem replacement at a reasonable price.

Edit: If you're like me and bought already 4 of these and they keep breaking, i'll save you some money. The cartridge in your faucet is probably too old to turn smoothly, hence the acrylic handle breaking after a few months over and over again. At a cost of 25 bucks per handle, it's much cheaper to just buy a new cartridge, which are currently selling for 65 bucks here on Amazon. Easy to replace and it turns so easily, you don't even have to buy a new handle. Just glue the old one back together and it will sustain the "turning resistance" of the new cartridge - there is virtually no resistance. The item name is Moen 1222 Single-Handle Posi-Temp Replacement Cartridge original review: The design is terrible. All the resistance of the turning is transferred to the tiny piece of plastic in the middle and after a couple of months the handle breaks. I've replaced it 5 times already and the price just went up from ~17 to almost 30 bucks, which is outrageous. It can't possibly cost more than 75 cents to manufacture this piece of plastic. It's probably cheaper to just replace the whole faucet that buying a $30 plastic handle every 6-8 months.

If your knob broke, contact Moen for a replacement cartridge
Got mine as a 'warehouse deal' - looks great! Many of the negative reviews state that these break after a few months. A couple reviewers have pointed out that often the cartridge needs to be replaced as it gets hard to turn after several years - I've noticed for a while that I need to use a good amount of force to turn on the tub. I contacted Moen about this issue and they sent me a replacement cartridge as a 'courtesy' - I am not the original home owner, and the warranty is non-transferrable. After installing the replacement cartridge and new knob, it is significantly easier to turn on the tub. I don't expect this knob to break any time soon.
