Big hit!
This was a big hit with the 2 year old I gave it (and still is several months later). Just be sure to shut the puzzle off (on the back) because otherwise the battery runs down fast.

Sound puzzle
It is nice made but I got it for my three year old grandson and he puts it together so quick that it don’t have time to play just should have got a regular puzzle

Great for easily distracted toddlers!
My 19-month old son is definitely not the kind of kid that wants to sit down and concentrate on anything for longer than 5 seconds. After I visited a friend and saw her child (whom is a few weeks older than my son) readily sit down and complete 3 puzzles and his shape sorter without breaking a sweat, I decided that I really needed to start working on his concentration abilities and making learning fun for him. We had puzzles, but to him, they were simply boards that held his projectiles. When we got this puzzle and the vehicles puzzle, it took quite a few days to get him to realize that these puzzles were different from the others we have. These puzzles have a "reward" when you get it correct, which is the sound. We started with the vehicles since he is a little boy after all, and cars will peak his interest more quickly than animals. Day 2 is about when he realized that slamming the pieces somewhere on the board eventually made a sound. Around day 4, he realized that there were different sounds and that they corresponded with different vehicles. He couldn't fit them in the slots, but he began matching them up in the right slot and trying to press them down. By day 7, he had learned not only every different sound that each vehicle makes, but he could match them up and that if he couldn't fit it into the slot that he could rotate them until he did, and could pick out whichever vehicle I asked him to grab and he would make its sound. He had also realized that the animals puzzle was similar and has already picked up on most of the animals and their names and sounds, as well as his permanent ability to fit pieces into any puzzle. I was VERY pleased that in just a week, he has made a huge breakthrough not just in these two puzzles, but in concentration and learning as well. We didn't even work on his shape sorter but now that he has learned that he has to rotate pieces to get them to fit, he has mastered it! Many cons that people mentioned is that the sounds are light-activated. While some said that they would have the sound go off in the middle of the night, I found that was not an issue for us. I suppose M&D may have toned down the light sensors because what I personally have noticed with both puzzles is that if it is too dim in a room, they simply won't make noise. This is fine for me since I can always make a room brighter if I need to (just turning on a nearby lamp seems to activate it without any issues), and if not then the puzzle will work fine in the daytime and at night we just use the puzzle without sounds. We had lost a piece for a while and I worried that it would set the light sensors off, but we never had that problem. Lifting the puzzle pieces out doesn't seem like much of an issue either, but my boy prefers to dump them all over the ground to get them out anyway. Overall, I can say that these puzzles are really a great teaching tool. If you have a kiddo that has never been able to hold an interest in a puzzle before, I would definitely recommend trying these. We sat together and played with them 15 mins a day right after waking from sleep and a nap, and that was all it took to get him loving puzzles!

Not what I expected.
I got this for my 18 month old son for Christmas. He LOVES anything with wheels. He likes the puzzle, but it’s glitchy. It’s seems that magnets trigger the sounds and it’s not specific to that particular piece. He also doesn’t have to have it in the puzzle slot for it to go off. Sometimes it goes off with no puzzle pieces in the vicinity; I find this a little unnerving, but it doesn’t seem to bother him. Also, when a sound is going off, it has to complete the sound before you can get the next piece to go off. If you slot the pieces before the sound is complete, it won’t go off at all. And with the magnets not specific for the piece and not having to slot it for the sound to go off, just hovering over the wrong slot will cause the wrong sound to go off and then you don’t have the right sound if you slot it before the wrong sound is complete. Overall, my son likes to play with it. It just wasn’t what I was expecting when I ordered it.

Simple toddler puzzle for introductory animal sound learning. THERE IS AN ON/OFF SWITCH.
These Melissa & Doug style puzzles are a hit in our house. They are great introductory puzzles to help little hands learn manipulation of objects and the sounds make things more engaging. As a learning toy, they are appropriate for younger toddlers, but can still be enjoyable and entertaining for older toddlers. In our house, the near 2-year-old is learning how to place the pieces and is learning the sounds of each animal. (It's nice to have sounds beyond just the basics. Sure, they learn the farm animal sounds from Old MacDonald, but this gives us a bit more variety...which is REALLY nice when you have toddlers who like to repeat things ad nauseum ALL. DAY. LONG. We own THREE of the puzzles in this collection: vehicles, zoo, and farm. I would love to review them separately, as I would give two out of the three a 5-star rating. As it is, I have to give it a 4-star for a MINOR issue. This is purely due to some construction error in the particular piece we own. For some reason, our zebra is mildly haunted and will occasionally make sounds randomly if the puzzle is left unattended on a table. This is the only piece out of the three puzzles that does this and it doesn't happen all the time, so I just shrug it off. Especially since THERE IS AN ON/OFF SWITCH on the back. (Thank you ever so much to the designers who put that in...some days I need a few sound-free minutes.) Another reviewer commented that you couldn't play the puzzle in silent mode. For all of the versions we own, this is not the case. I can switch those babies off at any time. There is a small sound delay when placing multiple pieces, so you won't hear the sound of a second piece until after the sound from the first piece finishes. This can be a little frustrating for toddlers on initial use, but I've found that it helps them learn patience. A few times playing with these puzzles and they quickly learn the quirks. It's totally a nonissue for us. So...other than our poltergeist zebra, I give these puzzles a huge thumbs up. And hey...if you need a little extra surprise in your day, maybe random animal sounds can just add to your ambiance. For our house, these will get plenty of miles and I am very happy that we have them in our toddler puzzle collection.

This is a nice puzzle. You need to place all of the pieces for the train sound to play. It only works in a brightly lit room.

Great puzzle for toddlers
My toddler loves this puzzle. Great for identify animals. Learning animal sounds and matching animals to the picture. I also bought the vehicle version.

Awesome puzzle board.. My 20months old son loves it.. The sound is gentle and keeps him engaged.. He loves mimicking it.. One great way to learn vehicles! Would recommend buying it.. Great service from Amazon and the seller as always!
