Works surprisingly well
I had bought a less expensive but quality metal non-KitchenAid flex beater. It had silicone/rubber on both sides of the paddle. Looked like it would perform better than the Kitchenaid. Surprisingly it did not and the Kitchenaid performs much better. The 3rd party one looks just like the regular non-flex edge beater from Kitchenaid, except with silicone on both edges. Turns out this does not work well. When trying to mash something like guacamole, the flex edge ends up just pushing the avocado around, it doesn't slice it, cut it, mash it. The regular beater, without flex edge worked surprisingly better. Apparently the avocado would somewhat stick to the sides of the stainless steal bowl, when the beater comes by it ends up ripping or threading or cutting. The only issue is that a thin slice of avocado can get stuck to the side and won't get moved. The KitchenAid flex beater handles all cases. The flex edge cleans the side of the bowl, while the non-flex edge acts to cut/mash/slice the ingredients, ie avocado. End result, this flex edge beater works really well on everything I've tried so far. The regular non-flex edge beater works really well too. The 3rd party flex edge beater surprisingly didn't work as well. Of note with the 3rd party flex edge beater, the rubber/silicone was already starting to crack and rip after just a few uses. I'll update this review if I see something like that happen to this one. So far so good. The price of this item does vary wildly, so its worth waiting to catch it when its at the lower end of the range instead of peak.

I love this product so much and am baking cookies and cakes again because of it. Highly recommend it.
It has taken me a long time to review this but I really did need time to work with it, I don't bake a lot of cakes or cookies (I will now). This beater fits my Kitchen Aid just as it is supposed to, after all it is made for it by Kitchen Aid. I was doubtful about how well it work after all it doesn't look very conventional nothing like the beaters I had used in the past, so I was worried it wouldn't incorporate or aerate batters very well. No need to worry. It creams and turns batters with butter into a very fluffy batter without any problem. As far as some of the concerns with how it scrapes the bottom of the bowl: the design is perfect, it catches every bit of flour or fluid that is in the bottom of the bowl and incorporates it into the batter so that everything is mixed in, it also scrapes the sides of the bowl without me have to once stop my KA and scrape the sides. The design of the mixer is such that it never goes in a perfect circle anyone that has this size KA know how it functions, I don't think my Artisan mixer went in a circle either, but I don't remember. People that are saying it doesn't mix haven't given it a try, more than once. I tested this on sponge cakes, and multiple types of cookies it scraped the bowl perfectly every time. It locks into place just as any other attachment that KA makes for their mixer and it has stayed in place when I have made large stiff cookie batches or small thinner cookie batches, this really is an amazing attachment. The other thing I really love about it is the clean up, it is so easy because there are no center pieces to work around and make sure that you have all the batter off of so there is no reason to not handwash it. So it washes up easily and very well. There has been no rust that has shown up as one person showed in a picture. So if you are like I was and quit baking cookies (much to my husbands heartbreak for a couple years) and cakes, get this beater attachment and enjoy making cookies and cakes again without having the hassle of scraping down the bowl again. It works great for me. I love it and I definitely recommend it.

Works great with 6qt lift bowl
Works great with my 6qt metal lift bowl. I have a Professional 5 Plus mixer and this fits and scrapes the sides of the 6qt bowl well. Easier to clean without the cross pieces in the middle of the mixer, and still mixes well.

Perfect for 6 quart professional Kitchen Aid stand mixer.
I have the 6 quart proffesional Kitchen Aid Mixer, KP26M1XGA. I also own the New Metro flexible beater similar to this one, on Amazon and they both totally work. With both of them I see the same resulting the final batter, but this one is easier to clean because it doesn't have all the cross bars. The thing is, I used to own an old 3 quart lift Kitchen Aid mixer, and then I got the professional 6 quart kitchen aid stand mixer because I wanted the power. With the old 3 quart one, the New Metro did a great job because the beater hit the bowl with every pass and it has the flex edge on both sides so it is designed to also pick up the batter at the bottom bump in the bowl: If you have a stand mixer where it is hitting on both sides on every turn then I think the New Metro is the way to go because you will never have to scrape down the bowl including at the bottom bump. What happens is let's say while the the right side plastic flange is hitting the right side of the bowl, the left side flange is hitting the right side of the bump at the bottom of the bowl so it totally scrapping the bottom of the bowl while it totally scrapes the sides. Now with the 6 quart, the beater turns many times making a one full trip around the bowl, and only hits the bowl twice. So the end result is that with a sticky dough, you are going to have to scrape down the sides of the bowl anyway, so you might as well be scrapping down the bottom of the bowl where it has the bump, and at least have the easier clean up job with the Kitchen Aid beater compared to the New Metro. At least that is my thinking. And this one is cheaper. But they both work perfectly.

Much better than the original
When I got my KitchenAid Mixer, I was quite annoyed all my attachments were non-coated and to make matters worse, when I grabbed hold of the beater attachment it left a horrible gray residue all over my hands. After researching, I found that KitchenAid knows about this issue (and claims it will do no harm) and says it will come off. Bull! I could not get that gray crap off the attachments and further more, I do NOT want that in my food (no matter what they claim). All I need is for this to transfer into my frosting and ruin one of my cake orders. I waited and waited for a better deal as I find these beaters are quite overpriced but I finally picked it up for under $30. This beater works so much better and I even threw all the original ones into the trash.

Works As Promised
After recently recently purchasing a new Pro 600 lift bowl mixer I was disappointed that the included beater left dough and batter on the edges of the 6 qt. bowl, necessitating stopping and manually scraping the bowl. I was hesitant to buy this after reading the many negative comments about this edge beater but after many uses I can only conclude that customers either did not purchase the correct beater for this particular machine or did not understand the mixing pattern that the Pro 600 employs. This mixer has an offset orbital gear drive that results in the soft paddle eventually reaching all edges of the bowl and it works perfectly as advertised. Maybe it doesn't work properly with after-market bowls. My only complaint is that it should be part of the included accessories and not sold as an expensive add-on.

Unsure if this is the correct beater?
I ordered this beater for my Kitchen Aid Pro Mixer, Model #4KV25HOXMC5, which is a bowl lift mixer; this beater clicked into place, but did not fit properly to the bowl. I took a picture of the included info for determining which beater is correct for your model. My model was not listed, but when I did a search of my model, it says 4.73 L (5 Quart). Therefore, I would need a KFE5T - Amazon listing: https://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B004A15870/ref=ox_sc_act_title_1?smid=A3DWYIK6Y9EEQB&psc=1 I'm including this info in case it helps someone else. =) Mar 5/20 - I ordered the KFE5T, but it didn't fit for my model, it was smaller than my original beater. In short... I have no idea which is the correct beater for my model.
