Large brass catcher
This is what you want when pistol shooting. This brass catcher will mount on a tripod for a hands free application. If you can assemble a tent, than you can assemble this catcher. Very large opening for directing the brass into the interior. In my opinion this is worth the money.

Really wanted to like this trap
Update: Changed to 4 stars, not 5 because the original still failed. The manufacturer contacted me back, in less than 24 hours, and asked a few questions about the failure, and to my complete surprise, 1 1/2 years AFTER the warranty expired, they replaced the failed parts. How amazing is that! This is a great company and they definitely are concerned with the performance of their products and the happiness of their customers. Original Post: Really wanted to like this trap. Here's why I took away 2 stars: - Longevity isn't good. I have owned this trap for 2+ years and it's already falling apart. 2+ years may seem like a long time, but I've probably used it less than 10 times. The pocket where the plastic poles slide in is coming unstitched. If this unravels any more, it will render the trap useless. - The angle how this sits makes it so about half of my guns, as they eject, will launch right over the top of the catcher. (not the catcher's fault, but it still isn't doing what it want it to) - When I purchased this in 2014, it was $45. It's now selling on Amazon in the $35 price arena. I thought it was a bit pricey when I bought, but now at $35, it's coming into more reasonable territory. If it would last longer, I'd be happy at this range. Overall, this trap has been OK. It does save me time at the range, but it hasn't held up like I would expect it to. I have reached out to Battenfield Tech (the manuf) to see if they will help me out with some sort of warranty or reduced cost replacement netting. Their warranty is only 1-year, but at less than 10 uses, I would expect it to last longer. I will update this review if things change after their response. Looks good on paper. Doesn't work well for pistol shooting.
I took this to an indoor range over the weekend and I was very disappointed in reality. This brass trap is large and will crowd you if you are shooting at an indoor range with narrow lanes. As some people have said when answering the questions about it, it will work well for rifles but not semi auto handguns. I was shooting a Sig Sauer GSR 1911 and the trap caught very few of the spent rounds. I had to stand with the gun at the opening of the trap and below the top of the trap. It's distracting and takes some of the shooting joy away. Many of the rounds that were caught or almost caught would bounce off the top of the net then fall out. If your handgun ejects to the side you won't have any problem using the trap if you have enough room and can get the trap high enough for your shooting. I mounted mine on the tripod that I use for my spotting scope,Slik Mini-Pro V Tripod with 2-Way Pan/Tilt Head . The tripod just didn't have enough height so I had to sit at the bench and shoot that way. However, my ejection port is large and the empty brass has a tendancy to go more verticle and back over my head behind me. This trap can't catch brass like that. When I shoot handguns now, I will go back to my Graco hand brass catcher. I am still keeping this brass catcher, but I will use it for my AR-10 and my WW1 & WW2 rifles. Pros: Large and deep Mounts on any standard tripod Easy set up Easy disassembly Easy to use Lots of volume Comes with an easy carrying bag Cons: Not for use with semi auto handguns that discharge brass vertically Too big and bulky to use at indoor ranges

Big enough to cover a nice size area!
I used it for a semi auto rifle and it worked well. Assembly was relatively quick and once together it seems sturdy enough. I've attached it to my shooting bench with an adjustable wraparound strap to hold it in place when the wind blows I would purchase again.

Works great!
As a reloader and bullseye shooter, I was looking for a net that collapsed or folded, so it would fit in my range bag. Watching your brass bounce off the side wall and landing in the next lane over (where you can't pick it up) gets expensive; not to mention annoying. Looking online, I kept coming back to this net. It seemed that most of the complaints (other than the net melting and rods snapping) were that it was too light, too short, and couldn't be adjusted at an angle. Fortunately, about a year ago I was able to snag a prototype of a spotting scope clamp from Fairfax Shooters Supply that allowed me to adjust the scope from table level to over 6 feet high, and looking at the base of this net, I knew (hoped) it would work. All tripod thumb screws are the same, so the odds were with me and I ordered it. It worked beautifully!! I can raise the net to a height of almost 8 feet (I am 6'3) or leave it at table height for a sitting position. FSS is developing a swivel so that it can be angled in any direction, so all of my problems are solved. Have not experienced the melting issue, maybe because of the loads I am using. Have also had no issues with the rods breaking. I'm assuming Caldwell has already fixed this, or is going to. Plus, there has to be an aftermarket solution if not. Have put in 2 photos of different heights. Sorry about the kitchen table, but the range doesn't allow photos, and my loading bench is too crowded. Photos are sideways, sorry. Again, can't say enough good things about this product.

Works a treat, saves hunting over hells half acre.
Works great. My pistol tends to throw brass in a few different directions, so one must stand very close. It doesn't always 'catch' them, but even knocking them out of the air helps a huge amount. Pro-Tip: Use a rest bag to weigh down your tripod on a windy day.

does what I need it to do
Works well but the flexible rods holding the mouth of the catcher open have a tendency to come disconnected whenever I move it. Not a huge issue as easy to reinsert but a bit aggravating.

Works as advertised
I mount it on an adjustable camera tripod. Set it for the right height and in goes the brass. Catches my 9mm and my 357 mag brass out of my Coonan s/a so it will work for any firearm. No need to dig in the snow to find the brass or to force fellow shooters to duck and cover.

Brass Trap
Use of a tripod is recommended. This saves a lot of scrambling and cleaning for range brass at every outing. Recommend this item for any range shooter as it keeps hot brass from hitting your neighbors,Brass Trap which they appreciate.
