I liked this puzzle because it was challenging, mysterious and fun. I would buy this item again.

Puzzle picture did not have a lot to do with the story

My wife enjoyed the puzzle, but we were disappointed the picture did not have a whole lot to do with the story. Would have made a lot more sense to have the picture be Julia's room or the step father's room after the snake attacked him.

Good story and puzzle in one

Really enjoyed this puzzle! I especially liked that the story seems to be the unabridged version from the original author. You get a good story and an intriguing puzzle in one. The puzzle does not show the solution but instead shows clues from the story itself with additional added hints to lead you to the conclusion of the mystery. The puzzle also adds objects and colorful patterns that were not represented in the story but made for a much more satisfying and interesting puzzle to work with. I read the story, puzzled, put the puzzle together while puzzling and then reread the story and the solution was evident to me. My only caveat was having to read the remainder of the story in the mirror (written backward to encrypt the answer) to see how it all ended.

Jigsaw puzzle +Sherlock Holmes story. Not as clever as it sounds. Just a challenging jigsaw puzzle.

That's all it is: a moderately difficult jigsaw puzzle that you solve without a reference image to help you sort the pieces. The pieces are all relatively similar in tone/value, adding to the challenge. The description leads you to think that there are clues in the puzzle that you need and can use to solve a mystery. This is not true. The mystery is just an out-of-copyright short story that was written with a Victorian's old-man's-tale understanding of the natural world. The puzzle image is an amalgamation of things that look vaguely Victorian and fusty, and there actually are a couple of objects in it (a safe, a bowl of milk) that appear in the story, but, since they are already in the story, they don't actually serve as clues to a mystery.

Small problem with puzzle, but great customer service.

We had a manufacturing problem with the puzzle and reached out to the company that sells them. We are very happy with their customer service and will be buying more of their puzzles.

Puzzle challenging, mystery disappointing

This puzzle was selected because it added the mystery to solve, but the solution story was so long and confusing we never solved it. (The solution is written with mirror image). There was NO picture of the puzzel, which was added a level of challenge.

Tons of Family Fun!

My family loves puzzles, and this one mixed the mystery in. It took us longer to put it together which meant more family time! We loved it!

Something Different

The 3 of us always do jigsaw puzzles while we are lounging away our days at the North Carolina coast. We aren't exactly experts but we've put together quite a few over the years and usually complete one every 2-4 days, depending on the difficulty. I ordered this one because we are crazy about Sherlock Holmes and also because it sounded more interactive and mysterious than our usual jigsaw puzzles. I was particularly interested to see if we would enjoy putting together a puzzle where we didn't know beforehand what the end result would look like. We definitely enjoyed this puzzle. It was fun to read the story and dissect it for clues as to what we might be working towards. The image itself winds up being a glossy photograph with lots of different props and textures. Very BBC Masterpiece Mystery. We were surprised and disappointed, however, to see that the photograph was missing some important elements of the story that could have somewhat easily been included. I was also a bit overwhelmed by the amount of indistinctly-textured and black pieces. After spending some time working at it, though, it wasn't as bad as I first thought and I rather enjoyed sussing out the more difficult areas. Can we agree it shouldn't be TOO easy? My mother-in-law pointed out that she was very perturbed by the cutting of the puzzle. All of the pieces were cut into similar shapes with two tabs and two blanks on each piece. I also prefer the puzzles that have more diverse pieces but I still liked this puzzle and was always chomping at the bit to get it completed. So even with a couple drawbacks we still had a good time working on this puzzle. I'm not sure I would buy another one but I haven't ruled it out either.
